TAUNTON — The Taunton Police Department is actively investigating a shooting that occurred at an apparent house party early Sunday morning and resulted in several people being injured.
At approximately 12:37 a.m., Taunton Police received several 911 calls reporting shots fired and multiple people shot in the area of Weir and Sumner streets.
Responding officers determined that the shooting occurred at a home on Weir Street near the intersection of Sumner Street, where officers located multiple gunshot victims.
Multiple victims were transported to area hospitals for treatment. Police have also learned that additional victims may have left the scene and sought medical treatment on their own.
The exact number of victims and the extent of their injuries remain under investigation. There are no known fatalities at this time.
Taunton Police Detectives and Massachusetts State Police Detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section also responded to assist with the investigation.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
