Portsmouth Firefighters issue update after home heating oil truck rolls over causing leak, injuries
Firefighters have issued an update after a rollover crash that took place on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Portsmouth Firefighters, PFD was dispatched for a reported oil tank rollover on Middle Road around 3:00 p.m.
Crews arrived to find a single car accident with a home heating oil truck on its side. Crews were able to dike and contain the leak to under 2 gallons of oil.
Hazmat teams from East Providence, Providence and Woonsocket provided assistance.
State hazmat teams were able to drill into the compromised tanker and remove 1800 gallons of oil to a secondary oil truck.
The driver of the vehicle sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
Along side state hazmat teams, DEM, state police and local police all assisted in the stabilization of the incident. Tiverton fire department provided station coverage to the town of Portsmouth for several hours answering multiple calls for service.
