What was supposed to be a fun experience turned into a nightmare for a Massachusetts family.

According to family and a GoFundMe fundraiser, late last week, after more than six months of planning, 12 members of Natasha Salas’ family traveled to Barahona, Dominican Republic, to spend time together and create lasting memories. Instead, in the early morning hours while everyone was asleep, a devastating fire broke out at the Airbnb where they were staying.

In a matter of minutes, 5-year-old boy tragically lost his life.

42-year-old Luzy sustained severe injuries, including collapsed lungs and second- and third-degree burns. Despite being hospitalized and fighting for her life, she later passed away.

All 12 members of the family were impact by the tragedy.

Two family members suffered catastrophic injuries and are currently fighting for their lives. Two others sustained severe second-degree burns and remain in critical condition.

Several other family members are still receiving treatment for serious smoke inhalation and respiratory injuries.

The GoFundMe is raising funds for
