Fall River Public Schools announces progress in English language proficiency for multilingual learners
Fall River Public Schools has announced progress among its multilingual learners based on the latest results from the ACCESS for ELLs assessment.
Administered annually across Massachusetts, ACCESS measures students’ growth in English language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Scores determine the student’s English learner progress, program placement, and exit from EL status.
This district states that this year, Fall River Public Schools’ results show:
- 12 out of 15 schools met or exceeded their ACCESS accountability targets, a significant
increase from 7 schools last year - 414 students achieved English proficiency and exited English learner services, representing
14.4% of multilingual learners - This marks a 5-percentage point increase in students who exited services compared to the
previous year
“These results highlight what is possible when students are supported and challenged at high levels,” said Brian Raposo, Fall River Public Schools Chief Academic Officer/Assistant Superintendent. “We are proud of our multilingual learners for their growth and perseverance, and grateful to our educators and families who play such a critical role in that success.”
According to FRPS, the ACCESS assessment plays a crucial role in supporting instruction and ensuring that students receive the services needed to succeed academically. Educators across the district use this data to tailor instruction and monitor student progress over time. The results provide valuable insight into how students are developing the language skills necessary for long-term academic success.
“We are committed to supporting every student on their path to success,” added Kelly Cooney, Director of Multilingual Learners for Fall River Public Schools. “These results show that our students are making strong progress, and we will continue building on this momentum.”
