Authorities identify 55-year-old Fall River man killed in pedestrian collision
A 55-year-old Fall River man was struck and killed by an SUV while crossing the street in Brockton on Friday night, authorities said.
According to MassLive, William Dearth was identified as the victim by the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office on Monday.
Brockton and Massachusetts State Police responded to the crash near 885 Belmont Street just before 9:30 p.m.
Dearth was struck by a Toyota Highlander while crossing Belmont Street outside of a crosswalk in an area that was not well-lit.
First responders transported Dearth to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Toyota was also taken to a hospital for medical evaluation.
Investigators reviewed witness statements and security footage, which showed the SUV traveling at a normal speed at the time of the crash.
No criminal charges have been filed against the driver.
The investigation into Dearth’s death remains ongoing.
