A Fall River icon received a fitting award on Thursday.

Jessie DaSilva, beloved longtime owner of Marcucci’s Bakery & Grinder Shop on Bedford Street received the Fall River Icon Award.

DaSilva has been a fixture in the local Portuguese-American community in Fall River for decades and so has the shop that she continues to operate.

Marcucci’s is a true Fall River institution known for its grinders, baked goods, and friendly service. The family-run business is considered a neighborhood staple by many.

Those who know DaSilva describe her as a Fall River legend who is friendly, hardworking, generous, and caring. She’s often seen wearing her signature “Jesus My Savior” hat and is praised for her generosity including donating meals to Fall River responders and those in need.

Mayor Paul Coogan and State Rep. Alan Silvia were among those who awarded DaSilva with the honor.
