Rhode Island woman with over 100 arrests arraigned on charges in fatal crash that killed award winning musician walking his dogs
A woman was arraigned on Wednesday on charges concerning a fatal crash that took place late last year.
According to police, on December 6th, 2025, at just after 7:15 a.m., the Hopkinton Police responded to a one-car motor vehicle accident in the area of 42 Spring Street (Route 138), Hope Valley. When Officers arrived on scene, they discovered that a pedestrian walking his dogs had also been struck by the vehicle.
The motor vehicle, believed to be driven by 41-year-old Shannon N. Godbout, was traveling eastbound on Spring Street when she left her lane and struck several objects, including two telephone poles and the pedestrian walking his dogs in the shoulder of the eastbound Lane.
The pedestrian victim was identified as 70-year-old Roderick Macleod, who resided on Pleasant Street in Richmond, Rhode Island. Macleod was transported to Rhode Island Hospital by Hope Valley Ambulance. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
At the scene of the accident, Officers discovered that Godbout was in possession of numerous illegal narcotics and packaging materials commonly associated with drug distribution. She was placed under arrest at the scene and subsequently transported to Westerly Hospital for medical evaluations by Ashaway Ambulance.
Court records show that Godbout was arraigned Wednesday and held without bail on several drug related charges in addition to Driving so as to Endanger, Resulting in Death and DUI of Liquor or Drugs, Resulting in Death.
Police say that Godbout’s criminal history includes over 100 arrests, with 8 of them from the Hopkinton Police Department. 82 court warrants have been issued for Godbout previously. She has received 40 traffic citations, with 7 of them issued by Hopkinton Police.
Godbout has a pretrial conference scheduled for June 8th.
