A local man who owned a Fall River institution for decades is gone.

72-year-old Jay Levine of Swansea, passed away on Tuesday at Boston Medical Center.

Levine owned and operated the Candy and Nut Center in Fall River for over forty years.

Candy & Nut Center was a longstanding, old-fashioned candy and nut specialty shop known for its tremendous variety of fresh candies and nuts. Not only did it satisfy the sweet tooth of locals, but it was also a trip down memory lane for some.

The store had been a staple before its closure in February.

Jay Levine’s daughter, Caitlyn, told Fall River Reporter last month that he had been in the hospital since November 4th and that he was doing well, but there was no way that the family could continue to run the store.

In addition to his beloved store, Levine enjoyed fishing and sailing aboard his 25-foot Well Craft. He was a member of Temple Beth El in Fall River for many years.

His services were held on Friday.
