Massachusetts National Guard combines with EMS, firefighters, and law enforcement to save lives across the state during historic blizzard

It’s taking a village full of dedicated folks through police, fire, EMS, and the Massachusetts National Guard to provide needed care and services in the wake of a historic blizzard.

According to the Massachusetts National Guard, soldiers from the #772ndMilitaryPoliceCompany conducted life-saving and vehicle rescue operations in Fall River during the #Blizzard2026 response.

The unit supported local law enforcement and EMS by transporting first responders through impassable roadways. Working in close coordination with civilian agencies, Soldiers helped ensure emergency services could continue critical operations despite severe winter conditions.

Soldiers from the #972ndMilitaryPoliceCompany conducted life-saving and vehicle rescue operations in Plymouth.

The unit partnered with local law enforcement and EMS to rescue three elderly residents, two children, and a service dog, transporting them safely to shelter.

Soldiers from the #101stEngineerBattalion are on the ground supporting local responders in Sandwich.

A tactical vehicle crewed by Spc. During and Pfc. Lefevre worked alongside the Sandwich Fire Department to clear routes, ensuring emergency medical personnel could safely respond to a call.

Pfc. Jarrod Esmeraldo and Spc. Antonio Sieron motor transported operators with the #1058thTransportationCompany, #226thTransportationBattalion, and Massachusetts National Guard providing high lift transportation support to the Pembroke Fire Department.

Soldiers from the #1060thTransportationCompany and #125thQuartermasterCompany assisted local authorities in Kingston, Ma., with route clearance and snow removal to ensure residents can safely receive medical assistance and transportation to warming centers.

Soldiers from multiple units throughout the Massachusetts National Guard were in Boston earlier today assisting the Mass Bay Transit Authority in clearing snow from bus stops throughout the city, ensuring that residents are able to safely get to their destinations.

The Massachusetts National Guard is activated and is providing up to 350 service members to support interagency partners responding to this winter storm.

The Guard noted that their “unique and dynamic skillset, including route clearance, debris removal, transportation support, and specialized rescue capabilities, further augments the already robust winter response operations of our civil authorities. The Massachusetts National Guard’s priority is the preservation of life and property across the Commonwealth, and we stand ready to assist our communities for as long as we are needed.”
