42-year-old man dies from injuries sustained after being struck by Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority train
A man struck by a Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority train on Tuesday has died from his injuries.
According to Lawrence General Hospital EMS NAGE/IAEP Union, just after 6:00 a.m., LGH Paramedic 2 was dispatched to the City of Haverhill at the request of the Haverhill Fire Department and Pridestar-Trinity EMS for a critically injured patient potentially meeting blood transfusion criteria.
A 42-year-old man was found with life-threatening injuries after being struck by a train. EMTs and paramedics from Pridestar-Trinity EMS, along with members of the Haverhill Fire Department, were already on scene providing immediate, lifesaving care.
Due to the patient’s location and difficult terrain, a Haverhill Fire Department UTV was used to access and extricate the patient. During extrication, LGH paramedics initiated low-titer O whole blood.
Through coordinated efforts between all agencies involved, the patient received two units of LTOWB, 1 gram of TXA, 1 gram of calcium chloride, bilateral chest decompression, and endotracheal intubation before being transported to Lawrence General Hospital.
According to WHAV and the Essex County District Attorney, the man later died from his injuries.
The incident is under investigation.
