Massachusetts Auditor DiZoglio blames AG stating courts have decided they won’t be audited anymore
BOSTON, MA – The audit battle in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts continues to heat up as the State Auditor has revealed that a branch of government is now refusing to be audited.
Diana DiZoglio took to social media Tuesday stating that Massachusetts courts just decided they won’t be audited anymore for the 1st time ever thanks to Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Campbell.
Fall River Reporter contacted DiZoglio’s office for comment and clarification. A spokesperson released the following quote from DiZoglio.
“We are in a constitutional crisis and it’s absolutely unbelievable that the courts would choose this time in history — of all times — to take this position. We’re supposed to trust that the people of the Commonwealth — who voted 72% in favor of an audit of the Legislature — are going to get a fair hearing before judges now when the courts just aligned themselves with the Attorney General and Legislature. This sets a very dangerous precedent and is cause for serious concern with respect to the courts’ ability to rule on the matter of auditing the Legislature, impartially— since they themselves have chosen to benefit from the Legislature’s and AG’s actions against the people on this matter. Trust and faith in the Judiciary right now seems to be at an all-time low. These judges have failed to consider how their actions only serve to further undermine the credibility of the courts. These courts already exempt themselves from public records laws — now this? This is no time for our courts to willfully damage the public’s trust. They should be working to instill confidence, trust, and faith in the system. I hope to God, that some basic semblance of common sense prevails here at some point. This has gotten out of control.”
DiZoglio has been in a battle to perform an audit of the Legislature since the measure passed in November of 2024, something House Speaker Ron Mariano and Senate President Karen Spilka have stated is unconstitutional, referencing an audit that takes place every year by an independent auditing firm.
According to State House News Service, Campbell and DiZoglio “have engaged in an extended she said-she said over responsibility as DiZoglio has repeatedly requested that Campbell represent her, or allow her to utilize outside representation, to sue lawmakers for not complying with her attempted audit.”
Campbell has maintained that she needs more information from DiZoglio to move forward on either front — telling “Boston Public Radio” hosts that “I hope the auditor stops the standoff” — DiZoglio pulled the Legislature into the conversation.
“She cannot continue to claim that my office hasn’t given her what she needs, yet refuse to sue me,” the Methuen Democrat said. “She has the power to sue both me and the Legislature, right now, but refuses to do either. These are all stall tactics giving the Legislature more time to destroy documents and records.”
DiZoglio added: “What we are all witnessing right before our eyes is nothing short of public corruption. Our AG has conspired with the Speaker and Senate President to secure a very large budget increase for herself as a reward for this cover up. It’s beyond disgraceful.”
