Bristol County man who admits he has no control over his actions sentenced again on disturbing crimes against children
Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn, III has announced that a 24-year-old man pled guilty and was sentenced before the Honorable Raffi Yessayan in the Fall River Superior Court.
Michael Edmonds of Norton was handed a State Prison sentence of 5 to 7 years followed by 10 years of supervised probation for Possession of Child Pornography (2nd Offense), Extortion by threat of Injury, Enticing a Child under the age of 16 and Attempt to Commit a Crime (Posing a Child in a State of Nudity). The cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Jose Vazquez.
On March 26, 2025, the 13-year-old victim and her father reported to a New Jersey police department that she was being extorted by an individual with a particular Snapchat account who the victim believed was a 14-year-old boy named, “Devin Johnson”. The victim had sent nude videos and photographs to this individual. The victim then refused when this individual she knew as, “Devin”, requested additional nude photos. The individual then threatened to send the victim’s nude photos to her family members and others on social media. Snapchat then generated two cybertips for accounts associated with “Devin Johnson” or the individual that the victim had been in contact with. Those tips were sent to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and then to the Massachusetts State Police Cyber Crime Unit. Further investigation revealed the snapchat account to be associated with Edmonds and a phone number that he had previously provided to the Massachusetts Sex Offender Registry Board due to a prior conviction for child pornography.
Massachusetts State Police obtained records from Edmonds’ Snapchat account through a search warrant and located messages with the victim between 3/19/25 and 3/26/25 which included sexually explicit messages and nude photos/videos of the victim. The messages revealed that when the victim refused to send Edmonds additional nude photos, he demanded that she let him log into her snapchat account which would allow the victim to upload additional nude photos for him to view but without the victim’s parents’ knowledge. Edmonds made this request again after the victim specifically informed him that she was 13 years old. When the victim did not comply, he then threatened to disseminate the nude photos to the victim’s family and others.
Massachusetts State Police executed a search warrant for Edmonds home and arrested him on August 7, 2025. On his laptop, police located a computer search in May 2025 for “what happens when law enforcement submit a preservation request to Meta”. The defendant admitted to deleting everything he could on his device after learning police had submitted a preservation request. During booking, Edmonds made statements acknowledging that he was communicating with someone under the age of 18 and stated that he has no control over his actions.
At the time of his arrest, Edmonds was on probation for a Bristol County case that involved him sending child pornography to others in 2020 and on probation for a Hamden County case where he assaulted several female students after he matriculated to Western New England University.
The Commonwealth and probation recommended a State Prison sentence of 10 years for the violation of probation cases; the court imposed a 10-year probation sentence to begin after his release from all incarcerations and civil commitments.
“The defendant is a very perverted individual who by his own admission cannot control his very disturbed mind. He has previously been convicted for several deviant sexual crimes and was on probation at the time these crimes were committed. This included threatening a victim with sending naked sexual images of her to her family. This is very disturbing and depraved conduct. When his sentence is completed, he will be on court ordered supervision for 10 years. This defendant does not belong out on the street,” District Attorney Tom Quinn said.
