Police have released the identity of the deceased and details surrounding a fatal pedestrian crash that took place in Rhode Island.

According to police, on Tuesday, at approximately 8:15 p.m., the Warwick Police Department responded to the area of 926 Centerville Road along with Warwick Rescue for a multiple car collision involving 2 vehicles and a pedestrian.

The initial investigation shows that an adult male ran into Centerville Road from an address on the south side of the roadway and into the path of a blue Subaru that had been traveling eastbound. A witness in a car that had been traveling eastbound behind the Subaru immediately stopped and activated its hazard lights when a yellow Chevy Impala passed to the left of the witness vehicle and struck the pedestrian who was still lying in the roadway. A second witness, in a car that had been traveling eastbound behind the Chevy Impala, immediately stopped in the area of the first witness and activated their hazard lights preventing any further occurrence. All involved vehicles remained on scene.

The pedestrian, identified as 49-year-old Michael Dembkowski of Warwick, was pronounced deceased at Rhode Island Hospital at 9:09 pm.

The Warwick Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and is actively investigating the cause of the collision. All vehicle operators are fully cooperating with the investigation.

At this time, speed and alcohol have been ruled out as contributing factors for the drivers.
