A 43-year-old homeless Massachusetts woman accused of stabbing a California tourist in a New York Macy’s bathroom while the victim was changing her 10-month-old daughter, has a prior arrest in Massachusetts for threatening to kill Senator Elizabeth Warren, according to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.

According to ABC7 New York, Kerri Aherne was ordered held without bail following her court appearance Friday night.

Prosecutors described how Aherne entered the seventh-floor bathroom at Macy’s flagship store and attacked the victim, causing the infant to fall from the changing table onto the floor—though the baby escaped injury. The victim, assisted by the child’s father, managed to restrain Aherne until store security arrived.

The assault took place Thursday afternoon just before 3:00 p.m., in the midst of the busy holiday shopping season.

ABC7 noted that Aherne reportedly told authorities that voices in her head instructed her to kill someone or she would be killed, prompting her to buy a knife inside the store and carry out the stabbing during the diaper change.

Court records further reveal that Aherne reportedly has a history of mental illness and was arrested in 2018 in Massachusetts after posting on Facebook her intent to kill Senator Elizabeth Warren.
