A man released on bail concerning a fatal highway crash in Rhode Island has been arrested again on a new charge.
On Thursday, members of the Major Crimes Unit arrested 43-year-old Juan Archila of Providence for Possession of Child Pornography. Archila was transported to State Police Headquarters, where he was processed, arraigned by a Justice of the Peace, and released on $10,000 surety bail.
According to State Police, late last month, Troopers from the Scituate Barracks responded to calls for a single motor vehicle crash on Route 295 South, south of Plainfield Pike, in the City of Cranston.
Witnesses to the crash stated that a Honda Accord, traveling in the high-speed lane, was forced off the roadway by another vehicle and entered the center median where it struck a tree.
The operator of the Honda, identified as 23-year-old Casey Bassignani of Johnston, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital by Cranston Rescue where she was pronounced deceased.
The operator of the second vehicle involved, Archila, was later located and taken into custody without incident. Archila was charged with Driving to Endanger – Death Resulting, held overnight and arraigned before a Justice of the Peace. He was held on $50,000 surety/$5,000 cash bail at the ACI. He then posted bail and did not issue a plea at arraignment. He is not supposed to drive and has a conference scheduled for February 27th.
