A 22-year-old Bristol County man pled not guilty in Fall River Superior Court Tuesday in the murder of his girlfriend.

According to court records, Gregory Groom was arraigned and held without bail this morning in the death of 18-year-old Kylee Monteiro, on August 7th, at his home at 107 County Street in Rehoboth along with Witness Intimidation.

According to WCVB, prosecutors previously stated that Groom was the initial person to notify police of Monteiro’s disappearance on August 8th. He claimed she had come to his residence seeking shelter but departed after a dispute.

Prosecutors further noted that Groom subsequently confessed to authorities that he had shoved Monteiro during a confrontation on August 6th, causing her to fall and strike her head. He also acknowledged dislodging her phone from her grasp, which resulted in charges of domestic assault and battery.

When informed by police that they intended to search his property, Groom eventually admitted to repeatedly stabbing Monteiro with a kitchen knife amid the dispute. Prosecutors added that he described excavating a grave in the nearby woods to conceal her remains.

Monteiro’s body was discovered approximately 20 yards from the shed where the incident took place, buried about 5 feet deep, according to the prosecution’s account in court.

Groom’s next scheduled court appearance is a pre-trial conference on December 18th.
