Formal hearing upholds Tiverton Police Department’s recommendation to terminate officer
Tiverton, RI — The Tiverton Police Department has confirmed that it has received the official ruling pursuant to the Rhode Island Law Enforcement Officers Due Process, Accountability, and Transparency Act (LEODPATA) regarding former Tiverton Police Officer Jacob Rapoza.
Following a formal LEODPATA hearing, the Hearing Board voted unanimously to uphold the Police Department’s recommendation to terminate the employment of Rapoza as a police officer for the Town of Tiverton.
The Tiverton Police Department stated that they respect the panel’s decision and extends its gratitude to all individuals involved in the LEODPATA process for their diligence, time, and professionalism. The Department additionally recognized and thanked Attorney Stephen Antonucci for his guidance and professionalism while representing the Town throughout the proceedings.
According to WJAR 10, Rapoza was a former school resource officer at Tiverton High School and was convicted in May of 2024 after being charged in March 2023 when he was accused of threatening students on social media and triggering his police stun gun near students and staff.”
The Tiverton Police Department noted that they “remain committed to maintaining the highest standards of accountability, professionalism, and public trust.”
