Despite shifting burden to commercial, Fall River residential taxes to still increase
Members of the Fall River City Council approved the proposed real estate tax rate factor for fiscal year 2026 in a meeting Wednesday.
In a vote of 8-0 (Shawn Cadime was not present due to a conflict with the meeting being moved from Tuesday) the council agreed to a tax factor of 1.75, the highest allowable factor the body could give to shift the burden to commercial rates.
The council vote concerns the shift and cannot change the tax rate other than shifting the burden.
The residential tax rate will increase by 3 cents per $1,000 evaluation to $11.48. Despite the burden shift, the commercial rate will drop by 25 cents to $23.58 per $1,000 evaluation.
