A missing local man found deceased is being remembered.

Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn, III has announced that on Monday, the New Bedford Police Department received a 911 call at approximately 8:44 p.m. indicating that a deceased male had been located near 122 Sawyer Street in New Bedford behind the Market Basket.

Upon arrival, first responders located 83-year-old Antonio Valente of New Bedford at the shoreline.  He was pronounced deceased on scene.

The victim had been reported missing the day prior by family members which prompted a Silver Alert along with a wide search of surrounding communities by law enforcement.

Foul play is not suspected but the matter remains open pending the official cause and manner of death from the Massachusetts Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

A family member on social media thanked those involved in trying to locate Valente stating that he “was loved by his family. He was well known, well-loved and well respected by many people. He was a kind man.”
