BOSTON – Halloween is one of the country’s most popular holidays with trick-or-treating, parties, decorating, and haunted houses. People seem to love to scare or be scared.

While those are popular activities, I’ve got you one better. How about spending time with a ghost?

According to AAA and local residents alike, one of “The Most Haunted Roads in the Northeast” is just minutes from Fall River.

Route 44 in Massachusetts has long been the subject of local folklore and supernatural tales, particularly along its stretch through Rehoboth, where it’s infamous for the “Redheaded Hitchhiker” legend.

This ghostly figure is described as a disheveled red-haired man who appears on the roadside, thumbing for a ride; drivers who stop often report him vanishing from the vehicle moments after entry, sometimes leaving behind a cold chill or an unexplained scent.

Back in 2017, Antique Archaeology, the home of the American Pickers show, tapped Route 44 in Rehoboth as one of the 5 haunted back roads in America that you have to take.
