Massachusetts father and son combine to win $800,000 on State Lottery game, here is how they plan on spending it
Dorchester, MA – A father and son won a combined $800,000 in prizes in the Massachusetts State Lottery’s midday Mass Cash drawing on Friday.
Eugene Girard of Norwood had purchased eight tickets with the same five numbers, matching those selected in the drawing, resulting in eight $100,000 prizes won. He claimed $700,000 (before taxes) in prizes himself and gave the eighth ticket to his son for him to claim a $100,000 prize (before taxes).
When claiming his winnings, Eugene noted that the numbers he had chosen were a combination of sentimental numbers he plays on a regular basis. He said he plans to use his winnings to buy a car, make home improvements and put toward savings. Matthew Girard, also of Norwood, said that he plans to use his winnings to purchase a car and invest.
Eugene Girard won a $1 million prize on a Billion Dollar Blockbuster instant ticket in September 2008.
The winning tickets were all purchased at Pam’s Market, 210 Pleasant St. in Norwood. The store receives a total of $8,000 in bonuses for its sale of these tickets.
The Massachusetts State Lottery introduced its midday Mass Cash drawing on Sunday, August 17, with drawings now occurring twice a day at 2 p.m. and 9 p.m.
