Rhode Island man held on bail in Fall River Superior Court after reported armed robbery on Route 6
A Rhode Island man is being held on bail after alleged crimes committed on the South Coast.
According to police, at just after 6:15 p.m. on July 18th, Dartmouth Police responded to a report of an armed robbery at King Smoke Shop located at 255 State Road (Route 6).
The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Muhammad Sheikh of Woonsocket, RI, allegedly entered the business, and brandished a knife. Sheikh threatened several employees with the weapon, making verbal threats to kill them while slashing the knife toward them. Sheikh then removed the cash register, which contained approximately $700, from the counter before fleeing the scene in a gray 2025 Honda Civic, later determined to be registered to Sheikh.
A “Be On The Look Out” (BOLO) alert was immediately issued to neighboring law enforcement agencies. The Providence Police Department subsequently located the suspect vehicle in their city and Sheikh was taken into custody.
Sheikh was arraigned in District Court and was charged by the Dartmouth Police Department with the following offenses:
· Armed Robbery
· Assault with a Dangerous Weapon
· Threat to Commit a Crime (Murder)
· Assault and Battery
· Malicious Destruction of property
· Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License.
On September 25th, Sheikh was indicted in Fall River Superior Court on Armed Robbery, Unarmed Robbery, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (2 counts), Larceny from a Building, and Vandalizing Property charges.
At arraignment and a dangerousness hearing on Thursday, Sheikh pled not guilty and had bail set at $100,000 surety ($10,000 cash) which had not been posted as of this writing.
Sheikh has a pre-trial conference scheduled for December 1st.
