Freetown, Fall River, Berkley, Lakeville personnel respond to blaze that destroyed home, killed several pets
Several communities responded to a Wednesday afternoon fire that destroyed a home and killed several pets.
According to the Freetown Fire Department, at 2:30 p.m. the Freetown communications center was notified of smoke in the residence at 34 S. Main in Assonet village.
All three Freetown stations were alerted.
While enroute, Car 1 was updated by arriving police officers of heavy smoke in the area. Car 1 requested a “working fire assignment” be called, bringing Berkley and Lakeville to the scene and Dartmouth District 3 to headquarters for coverage. Providence canteen was also called to the scene for crew rehab.
On arrival, Car 1 reported heavy fire on the D/C corner venting from a window.
Crews were able to make a transitional attack and brought the bulk of the fire under control quickly.
All occupants are accounted for with pets missing.
2 residents were transported to Charlton Memorial Hospital. 1 by Berkley Paramedics for minor lacerations and a second by Fall River EMS for minor burns and smoke inhalation.
The residence suffered severe damage to both floors due to smoke and excessive heat.
3 of the families 5 cats were found deceased, 2 are still missing.
There were no injuries to firefighters.
The Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.
