A teen was arrested over the weekend after a South Coast police chase, however, his case has been dismissed.

According to a police release, on Saturday, Officers from the Mattapoisett Police Department arrested 19-year-old Nicholas Kreidel from Prospect, CT as a result of a motor vehicle pursuit.

At approximately 11:40 p.m. on Saturday night, Officer Ben Church was traveling north on North St. to back up Officer Bates on a traffic stop when a blue Honda Accord swerved over the double yellow lines almost striking his police cruiser. The vehicle continued operating south on North St. in an erratic manner. Officer Church attempted to stop the vehicle in the area of North St. and County Rd. when the operator rapidly accelerated and failed to stop. The operator of the vehicle continued traveling west on Route 6 towards Fairhaven in an erratic manner failing to stop for police units.

The Fairhaven Police Department was notified of the pursuit and immediately dispatched police units to assist. As the pursuit approached the area of Route 6 and Route 240 in Fairhaven, Officers from the Fairhaven Police Department successfully deployed their stop sticks. The vehicle continued north on Route 240 with deflated tires and still refused to stop. The vehicle eventually became disabled and came to a stop on Route 240 prior to I-195.

The operator of the vehicle, Nicholas Kreidel, was placed under arrest and transported back to the Mattapoisett Police Department for booking. The remaining three occupants of the vehicle were released.

Kreidel was charged with Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Stop for Police, Lights Violation, and Speeding. He was bailed and released on $500 cash bail.

According to court records, at Monday’s arraignment in Wareham District Court, all charges against Kreidel were dismissed or deemed not responsible.
