The Rhode Island State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred on Route 6 West near the Route 10 South interchange in the City of Providence on Sunday.

At just after 5:30 p.m., Troopers and members of the Providence Fire Department responded to the scene of a single-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle. Upon arrival, Troopers located a black Kawasaki motorcycle on its side in the first lane of travel.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the motorcycle struck the high-speed barrier while attempting to negotiate a turn. The impact caused the operator to be ejected from the motorcycle, coming to rest on a nearby dirt embankment.

The operator has been identified as Cedric Teixeira, age 26, of Bridgewater, Massachusetts. Teixeira was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased as a result of his injuries.

Teixera was described by those who knew him as someone with a good heart and good manners who was there for his friends and family. Former football teammates at Randolph High School described him as determined and hard working.

The crash remains under investigation by members of the Rhode Island State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Forensic Services Unit.
