81-year-old woman dead, two others hospitalized after multi-agency rescue effort off Cape Cod beach

A woman is dead and two others are hospitalized after an incident in the area of a Cape Cod beach.

According to the Town Manager, at approximately 3:00 p.m. Friday, public safety agencies responded to a report of three people in distress after being caught in a possible rip current off Herring Cove near Hatches Harbor in Provincetown.

A coordinated search and rescue effort was immediately launched involving Provincetown Fire, Police, Harbormaster, the National Park Service, U.S. Coast Guard, Massachusetts State Police, and other responding agencies.

All three individuals were recovered. Two were brought to safety and are reported to be in stable condition, while the third, an 81-year-old woman, was recovered in critical condition and was transported to Cape Cod Hospital by the Provincetown Fire Department where she later died.

Town Manager Alex Morse stated, “we are incredibly grateful to our first responders and partner agencies who worked quickly and collaboratively under challenging conditions to locate and recover all three individuals. Our hearts are with those impacted by today’s incident, as well as their families and loved ones.”
