73-year-old Wrentham man reported missing driving around southern New England, found dead
According to Police Chief Bill McGrath, a missing Wrentham man has been located and is deceased.
Preliminary investigation indicates 73-year-old Steve Perry was driving in the Hamilton, Mass. area when he entered a darkened roadway that led to a pond/boat landing. Apparently disoriented, Perry accidentally drove into the water, submerging his vehicle, resulting in his death.
Perry failed to return home and was last seen Saturday at 2:45 p.m. in Wrentham Center, driving his 2007 Cadillac DTS. It was his intention to visit a local restaurant and then return home.
When Perry failed to return home, police were able to reach him on his cell phone. He stated he became lost after getting on Rt. 495. Throughout the evening, police spoke with him several more times. During these conversations, at different times of the evening, Perry was in Providence, then somewhere south of Harford Ct., then Revere Beach and finally near Manchester-by-the-Sea.
During each conversation, Perry was continuing to drive. Late in the evening, his phone went dead which was expected as he did not have a charger in his car.
The incident is under investigation.
