72-year-old Rhode Island woman dies from injuries in crash that left her trapped

A Rhode Island woman has died from injuries sustain in a crash that took place earlier this week.

According to the fire department, at approximately 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Engines 1 & 2 and Rescue 2 responded to the vicinity of 655 Frenchtown Road in East Greenwich for a reported car vs pole.

Upon arrival, crews found one patient trapped inside a small SUV.

The patient was extricated with the assistance of the jaws of life and transported to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries.

According to WJAR 10, 72-year-old Loreen Corona of Warwick died from internal injuries after she was traveling westbound on Frenchtown Road and struck a guardrail.

The crash is under investigation.
