A Massachusetts man suffered significant injuries after an afternoon boat fire.

According to police, on Saturday, just before 4:30 p.m., Bourne Police and Bourne Fire were dispatched to a report of a boat fire in Phinney’s Harbor at Monument Beach. When officers arrived, they found a small vessel aflame in the harbor.

It was determined that the boat ignited while the boat owner was conducting maintenance on his boat.

The 69-year-old male from Bourne suffered significant burns to his arms and legs as a result of the fire. The male was transported by Medflight to an area trauma hospital with what appeared to be serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident is still under investigation at this time.
