6-year-old in crosswalk killed after being struck by tractor trailer in Massachusetts
ANDOVER — Chief Patrick Keefe and the Andover Police Department are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that happened Tuesday afternoon in Elm Square.
About 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, 911 operators received a report of a pedestrian being struck by a tractor trailer truck at the intersection of Elm and Main Streets.
The pedestrian, a 6-year-old, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck stopped and is cooperating with police.
Several people who also were in the crosswalk at the time were not struck but taken to a local hospital as a precautionary measure.
The Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the Essex County District Attorney’s Office State Police Detective Unit are investigating alongside detectives from the Andover Police Department.
