 6 individuals from Massachusetts indicted in double murder that left 5 others injured

Six individuals have been formally indicted by an Essex County grand jury in connection to a deadly shooting that took place at 189 Essex Street in Lynn on September 2, 2023, leaving Jandriel Heredia, 21, of Revere, and Abraham Diaz, 25, of Lynn dead, and five others injured.

The following defendants have been charged with two counts of murder: Justin Alba, 25, of Peabody; and Lynn residents Darwin Batista, 20; Yefferson Vallecillo Cambar, 22; Carlos Ramirez Corniel, 16; Leonardo Espinoza, 15; and Abel Severino Reyes, 21. In addition, Alba, Batista, Vallecillo Cambar, Severino Reyes, Corniel and Espinoza are charged with one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury and four counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon; Corniel and Espinoza were both indicted as youthful offenders.

“These indictments are a result of the tremendous partnerships this office has with the Lynn Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section and State Police Detectives assigned to Essex,” said Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker. “The determination of Assistant District Attorney Jessica Strasnick and the prosecution team demonstrates our commitment to addressing gun violence in Essex County.”

Lynn Police Chief Chris Reddy added, “The indictment of these six individuals represents a significant step in seeking justice for the victims in this case that deeply impacted our community. I want to thank the many members of the Lynn Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police, and the Essex County District Attorney’s Office for their tireless efforts during this extensive investigation.”
