55-year-old Fall River man killed in highway pedestrian crash
A Fall River man is dead after a collision, authorities say.
According to police, Suffolk County, New York Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian in Ronkonkoma Thursday night.
55-year-old Jim Jones was attempting to cross Veterans Memorial Highway in the crosswalk at Fifth Avenue, when he was struck by a 2013 Honda Civic in the right lane of westbound Veterans Memorial Highway at 7:11 p.m.
Jones was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Honda, Erin Archibald, 64, of Smithtown, New York, was not injured.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
According to a GoFundMe fundraiser, Jones “could light up a room, and everywhere he went, he left with a new friend.”
Funeral services have not yet been announced.
