54-year-old woman killed in Raynham collision remembered by Massachusetts State Rep. sister, employer Bridgewater State University
Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn, III has announced a single vehicle motor vehicle fatality that occurred Wednesday in Raynham.
Raynham and Taunton Police were dispatched to the area of King Phillip Street and Gardiner Street at approximately 8:00 p.m.
Upon arrival, police located a single motor vehicle down a steep slope off in the woods. The vehicle had obvious damage.
The operator and sole occupant, 54-year-old Maura Whittemore of Taunton, had suffered significant injury and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
State Representative Lisa Field announced on social media that the deceased is her sister.
“My family and I received the heartbreaking news last night that my sister, Maura, died in a car accident Wednesday. I want to express my deepest appreciation to Maura’s colleagues at Bridgewater State University for their concern and support, as well the Taunton and Raynham police departments, Raynham Fire Department, and State Police for their skill and professionalism. Please take a moment today to give a loved one a hug to let them know that every day with them is a precious one.”
Bridgewater State University issued the following statement after hearing the tragic news.
“Maura served as an administrative assistant in the Center for the Advancement of STEM Education (CASE) since 2013. During her nearly 23 years at Bridgewater State University, she also worked for a decade in the Division of Finance as a receiving teller and accountant. Throughout her years of service, Maura was a dedicated and conscientious employee who was deeply committed to supporting students and her colleagues. Her family shared that Maura loved Bridgewater State and its students.
“The university extends its sincere gratitude to the Bridgewater State University Police Department for its compassion and dedicated efforts in assisting the search for Maura.
“The entire Bridgewater State community mourns this heartbreaking loss and extends its deepest sympathies to Maura’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.

The investigation into this matter is ongoing by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, the Raynham Police Department and Taunton Police Department.
