52-year-old Wareham man, tow truck operator, dies after responding to three-car motor vehicle collision

A South Coast man died this week while on the job.

According to police, at approximately 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Officers from the Bourne Police Department were on the scene of a three-car motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Scenic Highway and Nightingale Road. There were no injuries as a result of the accident.

Officers had concluded the accident investigation, and a local tow truck operator was on scene assisting with vehicle removal. While working diligently to clear the roadway, the tow truck operator experienced a sudden medical event and collapsed on scene. Officers immediately began to administer first aid, including CPR with the use of an Automated External Defibrillator. Bourne Fire/Rescue arrived promptly, continued rescue attempts, and transported the tow operator to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of first responders and medical staff, the 52-year-old Wareham man was unable to recover from the medical event and passed away.

The Department issued condolences.

“The members of the Bourne Police Department work closely with the tow operators in our community and rely on them on a daily basis to help keep our roadways open and safe. This work is often completed during unfavorable conditions at all hours of the day and night. It is with a heavy heart that we share the details of this incident. Our most sincere condolences go out to the tow operator’s family, friends, and co-workers.”

The name of the involved tow operator and the tow company were not released to provide time for proper family notifications.
