The Fall River Fire Chief gave an update Thursday as building inspection documents were released concerning Gabriel House at 261 Oliver Street.
At an afternoon press conference, Fire Chief Jeffrey Bacon, stated that 5 of the injured are still hospitalized with 2 at Charlton Memorial Hospital, 2 at St. Anne’s Hospital, and 1 in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital.
Building inspections completed at the Gabriel House between 2020 to present were also released to the press on Thursday.
The following is the most recent inspection in August of 2024 (we removed contact information)

The facility passed their last annual inspection in August of 2024 including fire extinguishers, the sprinkler system, and water pressure.
In regard to the fire drill information, Chief Bacon, who stated he once performed building inspections, revealed that residents may not have noticed that fire drills were taking place as they are for the staff, not the residents. Bacon noted that during inspections, the fire drill log is used as evidence that they are taking place.
In video released by Fall River Police concerning rescue efforts on the night of the fire, water can be seen rippling on the floor in at least one of the rooms.
The daily briefings will now cease, according to the City of Fall River, and any important updates will be sent via media release or press conference as circumstances warrant.
