5 seriously injured, 1 critical, after vehicle plows through Rhode Island Subway
A handful of people were seriously injured on Wednesday after a vehicle crashed into an area Subway fast-food restaurant.
According to officials, a male driver was operating a car at a high rate of speed when he crashed into the front of the Subway at the Apple Valley Mall in Smithfield.
The vehicle hit the back wall of the eatery which damaged the Planet Fitness gym located on the other side of the wall.
Two people were trapped under the car at the time of the crash.
6 people were injured in total including the driver, Subway workers, and customers. 5 were seriously injured and 1 was critical. 5 were taken to Rhode Island Hospital and one was transported to Miriam.
The medical examiner was on scene; however, officials would not confirm a fatality.
Smithfield, North Providence, Johnston, Scituate, and Lincoln were among the crews that responded to the crash.
