A Massachusetts man killed in a tragic boating incident is being remembered.

On July 3rd, 49-year-old Vilmar Dorner of North Reading was killed when the boat he was on crashed into the north jetty at the mouth of the Merrimack River near Salisbury Beach.

He and two friends were night fishing. The other two were rescued and hospitalized.

Dorner went missing, and his body was recovered from the river on July 7th.

According to an obituary, “Vilmar was an avid fisherman and a gentle giant. He was the jokester of the group and the joy of his wife and daughter’s lives. He is dearly loved by many and will be forever remembered as the beacon of light he was.”

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Vilmar’s visitation in the Cafasso & Sons Funeral Home, 65 Clark Street (Corner of Main Street) Everett, Monday, July 13th from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. with a service to follow immediately at 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, direct all donations to the GoFundMe campaign set up to support Vilmar’s wife and daughter in this transition with things like rent, utilities, and other basic necessities.  Link to GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/55eb54912.
