46-year-old Fall River man held without bail after arrest on list of drug, firearm charges

A Fall River man is facing a list of charges after an arrest last week.

According to police, on Thursday, Detectives of the CAST Unit were armed with a search warrant for the residence of 46-year-old Clarence Mendes on the 500 block of Third Street.

As detectives approached the residence, they observed Mendes making what appeared to be a hand-to-hand drug transaction with a vehicle parked outside of his residence. Detectives intervened and detained both involved parties. Detectives then executed the search warrant on Mendes’ residence.

During the search, detectives discovered approximately 22.6 grams of suspected crack cocaine, a Polymer 80 9mm handgun with no serial number, a large capacity firearm feeding device, 15 rounds of ammunition and over $60,000 cash in the apartment. This was all collected and logged into evidence.

Clarence was arrested for the following charges:

  • Firearm In Felony, Possess Large Capacity
  • Firearm Without Fid Card, Subsq. Offense
  • Ammunition Without Fid Card, Possess
  • Feeding Device, Possess Large Capacity
  • Firearm, Store Improp Large Capacity
  • Firearm Viol With 1 Prior Violent/Drug Crime
  • Drug, Distribute Class B, Subsq. Off. C94c §32a(B)
  • Firearm, Untraceable, Receive
  • Firearm, Possess Large Capacity
  • Firearm, Untraceable, Possess In Felony
  • Cocaine, Trafficking In 18 Grams Or More, Less Than 36 Grams

At Friday’s arraignment, Mendes pled not guilty and was held without bail with a detention hearing scheduled for June 11th.

The investigation remains open and on-going.
