4 transported to Rhode Island Hospital in 5 vehicle crash
Police are investigating after a major crash this morning injured several people.
According to Rhode Island State Police, at approximately 8:05 a.m., the Lincoln Woods Barracks investigated a motor vehicle accident involving a tractor trailer and four vehicles on Route 95 South, south of the Route 6 West ramp (Exit 22 A, B, C), in the City of Providence.
Police say that the tractor trailer first struck a vehicle in the rear, then sideswiped another vehicle before veering to the left and striking the high-speed barrier. The tractor trailer then travelled towards the right, struck two additional vehicles and the right barrier before coming to rest across all lanes of travel.
All vehicles involved were towed, including the tractor trailer, and four operators were transported to Rhode Island Hospital with complaints of pain.
The highway was closed for approximately 2 hours for investigation and clean-up.
