4 men in alleged Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut retail theft ring arrested after robbery of 80-year-old
Four men were arrested for an Organized Retail Theft following an investigation by Hingham and Weymouth Police on Friday in a Hingham shopping center parking lot.
According to Hingham Police, on July 19th, Hingham Detectives were contacted by Weymouth Police Detectives who had observed suspicious activity by the four men inside an SUV at a shopping center in Weymouth and followed the SUV into the Derby Street Shops in Hingham. Detectives continued to observe the suspicious activity of the men as they walked in and out of the Apple Store.
Officers learned the temporary license plate was not listed to the SUV and pulled it over as it was leaving a parking lot. A bilingual Weymouth Officer arrived to help translate. Officers saw one passenger attempt to hide a credit card under his seat. Police contacted the owner of the card, an 80 year old woman, who said her wallet had just been stolen from her purse while she was shopping in Weymouth.
Inside the SUV police found the woman’s stolen wallet, 3 iPhones purchased separately with the stolen card from the Hingham Apple store, and bags of items purchased with credit cards from stores in Rhode Island and Connecticut.
Arrested were 50-year-old Wilmer Vasquez Labato of Waltham, 30-year-old Miguel Angel Gomez Avina of Lexington, 32-year-old Jesse Marlo Sanchez Asmat of Lexington, and 46-year-old Misael Donato Rivera of Boston.
All were charged with Organized Retail Crime, Receiving Stolen Property Over $1200, Receiving Stolen Property Under $1200, and Conspiracy. The driver, Wilmer Vasquez Labato, was also charged with Unlicensed Operation, Attaching Plates, Uninsured Vehicle, and Unregistered Vehicle.
All four were booked at the Hingham Police station and released on bail for their arraignment at Hingham District Court.
This incident remains under investigation.

I agree. They failed to properly investigate by checking their residence. And I doubt they will appear. What’s stopping them from offending again?

No reason to search their house. Do they all live together? They had 1 women’s credit cards. They were observed out acting suspiciously which drew the attention of Police/Detectives, then to the vehicle, to the womans wallet, to stolen items using her cards in different states. Had there been suspicious activity at their homes and people were complaining that would be different. Could you imagine the Police going to everyone’s house that acted suspiciously and committed theft. Believe me I am against any crime and these people need to do serious jail time.

And why shouldn’t they search their homes??? They were caught with stolen items,It was a retail theft ring!!!!
Wow, I just don’t understand how people think, just because they were caught with a woman’s ID doesn’t mean anything, they probably do have items in their homes!!! Phew, please reread!!!

Can you please explain why their residence shouldn’t be searched?
Do you know exactly how many times they have done this? Do you know if they have hurt someone before because the victim has fought back? They might have more credit cards, jewelry, wallets, purses, identifications and social security cards. Searching their home WAS and still IS the best option to go! Their home could have everything they need as proof to press all the charges necessary. But the system is corrupted and every time they want to work less and less letting the crime and suspects get away with more and for the cases to clear by themselves as time passes. They ask for witnesses tips and bring people in for questioning to make their job easier and investigate less. That’s why they’ve put lots of innocent people in jail. The communities do way better job at investigating things than the “law enforcement” does.

“Released on bail”! How many crimes did they commit? You’ll never see these four again. Should have been turned over to ICE.

How do you know that they are here illegally? How racist. Just because someone has a different last name and they didn’t speak English doesn’t automatically make them illegal.

What a comment “should have been turned over to ICE” how do you even know they are not from here why because they use both last names? A lot of Hispanic people use both last names. I get what they did was 100% wrong but slot of immigrants come here to work hard and provide for their families and the ones that are born in the USA commit crimes because they know they are not getting deported, they do their time and go back to the same thing why? Because the justice system is broken and they get a slap on the wrist and keep moving.

He’s saying that because not one of them speaks English so it wouldn’t be a stretch to assume they are from Central or South America.
