4-injured, including 12-year-old, driver cited, after head-on crash in Plymouth County

A head-on crash in Massachusetts left several people injured and one driver cited.

According to police, on Monday night, personnel responded to Main Street (Route 228) at Longmeadow Road for a motor vehicle collision.

A Jeep heading south on Main Street (Rte. 228) crossed over the center line into the oncoming lane. A northbound Toyota attempted to steer away but was unable to avoid the Jeep.

Hingham E3, Hingham Q1, Hingham C3, Hingham Medic 2, Hingham Medic 3, Rockland ambulance and Norwell ambulances operated at the scene. Hingham Group 1 was on duty.

Police stated that the crash resulted in four people being hurt. Two of the four, including a 12 year old, were not wearing seatbelts. The 3 people in the Jeep and the one person in the Toyota were taken to the hospital. The 12 year old was taken to a Boston hospital.

The driver of the Jeep, a 20-year-old who was not wearing a seat belt, was cited for several offenses, including operating to endanger and 2 seat belt violations. A request was sent to the RMV to have their license suspended as an “immediate threat”.

In Massachusetts, the driver is cited for any passenger under 16 who are not buckled up. For passengers 16 and older, they are cited directly.

It is undetermined why the driver crossed over the center line into the oncoming lane.
