The property at 392 Davol Street in Fall River is a prominent waterfront location overlooking the Taunton River and Mount Hope Bay, near Battleship Cove. It has long served as a commercial/restaurant site and has undergone several major transformations over the decades.

1976 – 1980s: The Gangplank

Opened in 1976 by David Freedman during the U.S. Bicentennial. It was the first major private investment on the Battleship Cove waterfront in over 25 years and became a popular waterfront restaurant. It was also known for a great Sunday brunch.

1980s – 1996: Leone’s on the Waterfront

Dominic and William Leone took over the restaurant and renamed it Leone’s on the Waterfront. In 1996, the business suffered a bank foreclosure and closed under the Leone name.

1997 – 2009: The Regatta at Battleship Cove

The address was home to The Regatta Restaurant & Club (also known as Regatta at Battleship Cove). It opened in the late 1990s and quickly became a popular waterfront dining and nightlife destination. Many locals remember it as a lively spot for dining, drinks, events, and waterfront views. It operated successfully for more than a decade but closed around 2009.

Transition Period (2009–2014)

After The Regatta closed, the property sat largely vacant for a few years. In 2012, it was purchased by Rapids Management, LLC. A full-scale renovation began in early 2013, but progress was delayed by a significant fire in April 2013 and the harsh winter of 2013–2014.

Reopening as The Cove Restaurant & Marina (2014–present)

In July 2014, the building reopened as The Cove Restaurant & Marina. The new owners completely gutted and renovated the interior and exterior, creating a 200-seat indoor dining area, a large outdoor patio with another 100 seats, an expansive bar, and a marina with a 400-foot dock for boaters. It quickly became known for fresh seafood, American and Portuguese-inspired dishes, and waterfront dining with views of the bay and the USS Massachusetts. As of early 2026, The Cove closed temporarily for another major interior renovation. Work included new walls to create defined dining and function rooms, upgraded finishes, and a refreshed look. It has since reopened and continues to operate as a popular waterfront restaurant and event space.

392 Davol Street has evolved from a long-time restaurant/nightlife venue into the modern The Cove Restaurant & Marina through multiple ownership changes and major renovations. Its core identity as a waterfront dining and marina destination has remained consistent for nearly 30 years.
