A local attorney who practiced in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut, has died

39-year-old Matthew J. Pimentel, Esq. of Swansea, passed away on Thursday.

According to an obituary, “Matt achieved various accolades throughout his college years beginning at Bridgewater State University, earning a BA in History. Following his undergrad, Matt earned his Juris Doctorate degree in 2013 from Roger Williams University School of Law where he graduated magna cum laude. The beginning of his successful career began when he was sworn into the Massachusetts and the Rhode Island Bar Association. Following that, he was then sworn into the Connecticut Bar Association. He was a Partner at Higgins Cavanagh & Cooney in Providence, RI, where he practiced until his passing.”

Higgins Cavanagh & Cooney released the following statement on Monday.

“Matt was an exceptional attorney whose integrity, professionalism, and dedication to his clients earned him the respect and admiration of all who had the privilege of working with him. Beyond his legal accomplishments, he was a trusted advisor, a valued colleague, and a genuine friend whose kindness and generosity touched countless lives.

“Matt’s contributions to our firm and the community will have a lasting impact. He approached every matter with compassion, wisdom, and an unwavering commitment to helping others. His presence will be deeply missed by our attorneys, staff, clients, and friends.

“During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with Matt’s wife, Khrystyne, son CJ, and loved ones. We extend our heartfelt condolences and ask that you keep them in your thoughts as they navigate this tremendous loss.

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, July 28th at 6:00 p.m. at the Auclair Funeral Home on South Main Street in Fall River.

A cause of death was not released.
