A Massachusetts man has died after a two-vehicle collision on Monday.

At just after 1:00 p.m., the Wareham Police Department announced that Minot Avenue was closed to traffic in the area of the Wareham Elementary School due to a crash.

A gray Toyota Highlander, driven by 38-year-old Matthew Goodchild of Wareham, was traveling east on Minot Avenue when it collided with a black GMC Sierra traveling west.

Goodchild was transported to Tobey Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The female driver of the Sierra was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford with what was believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Wareham resident Jaymie Dyer announced on social media Tuesday morning that it was her car involved in the crash and that Goodchild had battled and overcame previous troubles.

“I’m sure a lot of people saw my car was in an accident on Minot Forest in Wareham (Monday). It’s with an extremely heavy heart we all lost our loved one, a father, son, brother and uncle. Matthew Goody Goodchild 9-6-85- 7-8-24 (Goody) was my daughter’s father and my best friend and my ride or die. I honestly don’t know how we will all make it in the world without you. You fought the best battle and overcame so many obstacles and changed your life in so many positive ways. l (mostly for Aubrey) will always love you, miss you and tell Aubrey how much you loved her every day. Your family is coming together strong and will figure out how to overcome this. We love you (to) infinity.”

The crash is under investigation.
