34-year-old Dartmouth man charged in pedestrian crash that killed 70-year-old, injured another

Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn, III has announced a pedestrian fatality from a motor vehicle accident that occurred this morning at the intersection of Route 18 North and Coggeshall Street in New Bedford at approximately 8:30 this morning. 

The suspect has been identified as 34-year-old Andrew Johansen of Dartmouth who is being charged with Motor Vehicle Homicide by OUI and Negligence related to striking two female pedestrians at that intersection.

Both victims were transported from the scene, one with life threatening injuries.  A 70-year-old female victim has since been pronounced deceased at a local hospital.  The second victim was treated for minor injuries. 

The DA’s Office expects Johansen will be arraigned this afternoon in the New Bedford District Court. 

The investigation is being coordinated by the State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office in conjunction with the New Bedford Police Department.
