31-year-old New Bedford woman killed in fatal stabbing being remembered

A 31-year-old Dartmouth man will be charged Saturday with murder in connection to Friday’s stabbing homicide on Atlantic Street in New Bedford, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced.

Tyler Dow Baglini was placed into custody shortly after the incident and was held overnight at Saint Luke’s Hospital for psychiatric evaluation. He will be arraigned Monday morning in New Bedford District Court on a charge of Murder.

Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the district attorney’s office, New Bedford Police and Homicide Unit prosecutors are actively investigating the homicide which occurred late Friday afternoon in New Bedford.

At just before 5:00 p.m. Friday, New Bedford Police responded to 86 Atlantic Street for a report of a stabbing. When they arrived inside the home, they located and rendered aid to a 31-year-old New Bedford woman who was suffering from apparent stab wounds.

The victim, who was later identified as Kerri Fidalgo, was rushed to Saint Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, where she was later pronounced deceased.  The victim was living in an apartment at the 86 Atlantic Street address.

According to a friend who attended Susan’s Dance Studio in Fairhaven with Fidalgo and her sisters, Kerri was kind, reliable, creative, and a warm, happy person to be around.

“She is an incredible loss to our community.”

Others described Fidalgo as an awesome person who was there for them when they needed her.

Kerri worked at New Bedford District Court.

No word yet on a possible motive in the fatal stabbing.
