3-week-old baby boy killed in Norwich dog attack
A baby was tragically killed Monday after being attacked by the family dog.
According to dispatch, at roughly 8:39 p.m., Monday, a call came in for 36 McKinley Ave Apt 2 in Norwich, CT for a 3-week-old not breathing due to a dog attack. Norwich is approximately 60 miles west of Fall River.
When first responders arrived, they discovered that the family’s dog had attacked Carter Settles.
According to Norwich Police Lieutenant John Perry, the baby boy was home with his mother and paternal grandmother. One of the women was holding the baby when the male pit bull mix jumped up and started to bite him. Police have not yet released which female was holding the boy.
Perry described the family as understandably distraught. “They are dealing with something that was ripped away from them.”
No other children were in the home at the time of the attack.
Multiple traumatic injuries resulted in the baby being pronounced dead at the scene.
The K9 was taken into custody without incident and is currently being quarantined for 14 days.
The investigation is ongoing and is not believed to be criminal in nature.
Police do not know what caused the dog to attack.
