29-year-old killed in Westport motorcycle crash being remembered as services announced
Services have been announced for a local man killed in a fatal motorcycle crash Saturday night in Westport.
According to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn, III, Westport Police received a 911 call at 11:38 p.m. reporting a single motorcycle crash in the area of 178 Main Road in Westport.
Upon arrival, Westport Police and EMS located a Harley Davidson motorcycle off the roadway with significant damage. Approximately 50 feet from the motorcycle, police and first responders located the operator, 29-year-old John Soares, IV, of Fall River with life threatening injuries. Soares was pronounced deceased on scene.
Police located debris from the motorcycle scattered in the roadway and into the property of 178 Main Road. A telephone pole and stone wall in the area of 178 Main Road appeared to be impacted from the crash.
According to scanner transmissions, responders found Soares not breathing and was performing CPR.
An obituary listed Soares as a resident of Tiverton and stated that he “was currently working as a construction laborer for the Fred Deroma & Son Construction Co. and was a member of the Laborers Union local 223 of Boston. Some of his enjoyments include fishing, riding dirt bikes, ATVs, and his motorcycle. Most of all John loved spending time with his family.” A family member also told Fall River Reporter that Soares also loved animals and was a good kid who did not get into trouble.
A wake for John will take place on Thursday, April 16th from 4-8 PM at the Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River. His funeral will be held on Friday, April 17th at Holy Trinity Church, Stafford Rd at 10:00 AM. Please meet directly at the Church. Interment at Pocasset Hill Cemetery, Tiverton, RI.
The crash is under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Bristol District Attorney’s Office along with the Westport Police Department.
