28-year-old Fall River man sentenced to prison concerning fatal crash that killed Taunton’s Mallory Humphreys
A 28-year-old Fall River man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty in connection with a crash on Route 44 in Taunton that claimed the life of Mallory Humphreys.
Andrew Sousa was charged with Motor Vehicle Homicide while Operating under the Influence and Operating a Motor Vehicle while Under the Influence.
According to court records, he pled guilty Friday in Fall River Superior Court to Motor Vehicle Homicide-Operating under the Influence while the charge of Operating a Motor Vehicle while Under the Influence was dropped.
Sousa was sentenced Friday in Fall River Superior Court to serve 2 1/2 years with credit for 2 days served. 4 years of probation were also issued.
On September 15th, 2024, at just before 1:30 a.m., Sousa was driving a gray 2015 Infiniti eastbound in the area of 608 Winthrop Street when it rear-ended a tractor trailer that was also being driven eastbound. 24-year-old Mallory Humphreys of Taunton was in the passenger seat of the car Sousa was driving and died as a result of the crash.
Friends described Humphreys as a ray of sunshine who was the brightest light in every room and had a sense of humor. She was a little spitfire who always had a smile on her face no matter what was going on in her life and was known as resilient and thoughtful. She was remembered as a great nurse and worked at the Old Colony Correctional Center in Bridgewater.
The case was prosecuted by Canan Yesilcimen and E. Russell Eonas.
