A Massachusetts motorcyclist was killed Thursday afternoon after colliding with a pick-up truck.

According to police, shortly after 4:00 p.m., Yarmouth Police were dispatched to the intersection of Station Avenue and Wood Road for a motorcycle crash. Initial reports indicated this was a single vehicle crash, and the operator had struck a mailbox.

Officers arrived on scene to find the 28-year-old motorcycle operator on the ground suffering from life threatening injuries and learned the crash also involved a pick-up truck. The driver of the truck remained on scene. Members of the Yarmouth Fire Department performed life saving measures as officers began investigating the crash.

The initial investigation determined the pick-up truck was crossing the intersection of Wood Road when the motorcyclist, traveling South on Station Avenue at a high speed, collided with it. The motorcycle then struck a granite mailbox post. Keean Laakso of South Yarmouth, died at the scene.

Laakso was owner and CEO of Laakso Landscaping.

Those who knew him described him as kind, gentle, a good friend and someone good for a laugh. He died doing what he loved to do.

Yarmouth Police and the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council Crash Reconstruction Unit are investigating the crash. There are no charges currently. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 508-775-0445.
